Tom Brady Announces Retirement, Fans Stunned

Many football fans consider Tom Brady to be the best quarterback to ever play in the NFL. His record on the field is undeniable, no matter how you feel about his personality or his views. Brady has carried his teams to a jaw-dropping seven Super Bowl victories, has won more post-season games than any other quarterback, and has essentially defined the NFL for over two decades.

That’s why the news of his retirement stunned so many fans. After the Tampa Bay Bucs dropped from the NFL postseason, Brady told reporters that he has no plans to get back on the gridiron in the fall. After several days of speculation, Brady officially announced his retirement on Instagram Tuesday.

Brady Hangs Up His Jersey

“I have always believed the sport of football is an ‘all-in’ proposition — if a 100% competitive commitment isn’t there, you won’t succeed, and success is what I love so much about our game,” Brady, 44, wrote on Instagram. “I am not going to make that competitive commitment anymore. I have loved my NFL career, and now it is time to focus my time and energy on other things that require my attention.”

Brady’s football accomplishments set several new records in the NFL. His unbelievable seven Super Bowl wins is a feat that no other player may ever match. It’s extremely tough for an NFL team to even reach the Super Bowl multiple times in a decade, let alone win the last game of the post-season consistently.

Unparalleled Career

Brady consistently impressed his coaches and fans alike in the postseason. He earned the Super Bowl MVP award five times during his career and has the best winning record of any postseason quarterback. He also holds the record for most touchdown passes at 624 and most passing yards at 84,250.

Brady joined the New England Patriots in 2001 and played for them until 2019. In the 2020 season, he moved to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, where he led the team to victory in Super Bowl LV. For many young fans, Tom Brady is synonymous with football greatness. Brady has dominated in the NFL since before many football viewers were born!

Brady expressed gratitude to all the players and coaches he was able to compete against during his long career in the NFL. “I will remember and cherish these memories and re-visit them often. I feel like the luckiest person in the world.”
